What is insurance?

Mainly purpose is to transfer of risk by an individual such as yourself or organization to insurance company. In other word, help to ease your burden in the beginning of casualties.

Upon buying insurance from insurance company, you or organization will be known as policy owner.

The insurance company receives payment from you or organization in a form of premium and will compensate you in the event of losses or damages sustained by you.

Type of insurance:

1)    Investment link insurance.
An investment-linked insurance plan is a life insurance that combines investment and protection. Your premiums provide not only a life insurance cover, but part of the premiums will also be invested in specific investment funds of your choice. You get to choose how to allocate your insurance premiums towards protection and investment.

2)    Medical and Health Insurance
Medical and Health Insurance (MHI), is an insurance policy which is designed to cover the cost of private medical treatment, which can be very expensive, especially with hospitalization and surgery. MHI also ensures that you won't have to worry about the cost of seeking treatment during emergencies. In addition, MHI also provides you with an income stream while you undergo treatment.

3)    Personal Accident insurance
Personal Accident insurance or PA insurance is an annual policy which provides compensation in the event of injuries, disability or death caused solely by violent, accidental, external and visible events. It is different from life insurance and medical & health insurance. You can either take a PA policy for yourself or a group policy for your family, protecting you and them anywhere in the world, anytime of the day. PA insurance provides 24-hour worldwide insurance protection

4)    Life Insurance
Buying life insurance for you and your loved ones helps provide some financial security in times of hardship. The money from your policy will be paid to your loved ones when you pass away or to you should you suffer a total and permanent disability or loss.

5)    House owner insurance
Cover your home as home is one of the largest financial investments you’ve made and that are why it's so important to protect. There are three main type of policies are Basic Fire Policy, House Owner Policy and House Holder Policy.

6)    Retirement Annuity
A retirement annuity is a contract by which an insurance company agrees to provide you with a stream of income during your retirement years. Generally, a retiree may need about 60% of his/her last drawn salary to maintain his/her existing standard of living during retirement.

7)    Travel insurance
Travel insurance coverage is usually limited to the period of your travel. However, some insurance companies may offer various combinations of protection to cater to the specific needs of customers, including long-term annual policies for a frequent traveler.

Dragon School

SMK Tun Abdul Razak well known as Dragon school or Kolej Tun Abdul Razak is a national middle/higher secondary school on the outskirts of Kuching, the capital of the East Malaysian State of Sarawak. It is located at KM 38, Jalan Kuching/Serian.

It was created in 1959 under the Colombo Plan by the Australian government and was named Dragon Secondary School. The name is derived from the hills that surround the school, like the coils of a dragon's body. The name is often falsely attributed to the winding road that leads to the school.
Dragon School was administered by Australian personnel under the Colombo Plan until 1967 before it was taken over by the Malaysian Education Ministry. For at least a decade after that, the Form Six classes of the school were often taught by Volunteer Service Overseas personnel from England, Australia and New Zealand.
On July 12, 1980, Dragon School lost its unique identity when its name was changed to that of Kolej Tun Abdul Razak, making it indistinguishable from any other secondary school in the country.
On January 1, 1999, its fate was sealed when it was renamed Sekolah Menangah Kebangsaan Tun Abdul Razak. It has now fallen into the obscurity of the Malaysian Education system, its unique history, forgotten by almost all but those who were lucky enough to have been educated under its roof when it was still Dragon School.
Principal of the School:
1959-1963: Mr. T.A.W. Downing
1964-1967: Mr. J.A. Bunday
1968-1969: Mr. Chai Kui Ho
1970  : Mr. Hii Ching Chiong
1971-1977: Mr. Jacob Chacko
1978-1982: Mr. Paul Ngui Sui Lin
1982(1 penggal): Mr. Bolhan Tahir
1983-1987: Mr. Oliver Katie Dobby
1988-2004: Mr. Gendin Wood
2005-till current: Dr. Linton @ Jerah Britten

Employers urged to introduce employee assistance programme

Employers in the country have been urged to introduce the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to promote mental health in the workplace.

Making the call, member of the Mental Health Promotion Advisory Council, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said such module has been proven to be effective in enhancing productivity and performance among employees.

“Mental health issues, particularly stress-related issues, among Malaysian employees are a serious matter which should be given attention so that problems such as depression and other mental health issues can be addressed,” he said in a statement.

Productivity depended much on the mental health of employees, he added.

“Neglecting the mental health and psychosocial aspects in the workplace not only detrimental to the workers but also has bearing on the overall efficiency of an organisation,” he said, adding that mental health promotion was in line with the country’s aspiration to become a developed nation.

Mental illness contributed to the increase in global suicide rate, with one death recorded every 40 seconds, he added.
In Malaysia, the suicide rate has increased to between 19 and 20 persons for each 100,000 population compared to eight in 1980.

“No single country or individual is spared of mental health issues. This should be given attention just like any other health problems,” he said. — Bernama
